5 Easy Steps to Hiring a Colorist

1) Go to the weight room

2) Run into an old friend–i.e Tahir the sound guy from some shoot and candidly ask: “Do you know any good colorists who will work for cheap?”

3) Get the contact info

4) E-mail the colorist–i.e. Al C. Tyus and apologetically state the low post-production budget (preferably lower than what it actually is, within reason of course) while truthfully stating the film’s potential (SELF PROMOTION IS KEY!) in the festival circuit and beyond

5) Reluctantly (though secretly quite satisfied) accept Al’s suggested rate upon looking at his decent reel and hire him, but only after carefully considering at least 5 other options using step (4).

Happy Colorist Hunting!
